Learning, learning

Having tumbled into independent publishing through Playa Perdida, I find myself intrigued by what a new venture like this involves. A big part is the learning curve–trying to figure out not only the mechanics of publishing, but also what it takes to spread the word about a book.

How great, then, that there are people out there who want to throw their knowledge and experience into the blogosphere, so that folks like me can get better at this.

Jane Friedman is a new find, courtesy of Michael Hyatt’s blog. A recent interview with Friedman opened up some ideas about the web of skills necessary for getting books into the hands of readers; she has a fair bit of intelligent comment on social networking, too.

As I dive into readying the Advent guide for publication, I’m also discovering good resources from the CreateSpace crowd. An article on ‘interior design’ might sound rather dry, but it offers some terrific ideas and tips. A bonus: CS put me on to Font Squirrel, and for that lead, I’m indebted.
